Well another bag ruined. We just returned from our latest tour and somewhere between Guayaquil and Miami one bag got very black and wet on one side. We re-checked it to our connecting flight. It was only when our driver pulled the bag out of the trunk that we realized it stunk badly of wet fish! It's currently residing by our trash.

That reminds me of a flight years ago. Were were at DFW at the hottest time of year and had already boarded. Just outside our window baggage handlers were loading bags from a cart onto the conveyor. One item was a medium-sized cardboard (tri-wall) box that appeared to be damp or wet. Just as the handlers lifted it from the cart to the conveyor, it completely fell apart. Crushed ice and frozen(or refrigerated?) fish spewed out all over the conveyor and tarmac. The ice started melting and the fish started thawing rapidly in the blistering heat. The handlers scrambled to gather them up, throw them into trash bags and another box, and into the airplane's baggage compartment! We were lucky; our bags must have been far enough away from the fish so didn't take on a fishy smell!

  • How strict are they with one suitcase rule ?

It's a risk to exceed the guidance that you get from Tauck on their website and in the spiral travel booklet. The internal private charter flights are lower risk, however on the regularly scheduled Quantas flight from Sydney to Wellington you will be subject to the Quantas rules for coach class travel. We did this small group trip last year and I believe that all had one checked bag and one carryon.

We will be on the Spotlight on Australia trip in February 2018. I am trying to find out details with regard to luggage for this trip. I know we will be taking several small charter flights. I need to know weight and size restrictions please!

We went to Australia last year. The restrictions on luggage for the internal flights are in fact VERY strict. We flew business class from the US into Melbourne, but when we flew coach from Melbourne to Hobart we had a major overage charge. My carry-on was 22 pounds and their limit was a strict 15 pounds.

The history teachers who taught me revered accuracy. So it is with a certain rebelliousness that I now confess how much British history I actually learned from the movies. Subject to artistic license, society’s shifting attitudes, and the almighty goal of fast-paced storytelling, film has never been the most accurate art form. But there was n...

I awake this cold morning in the Green Mountains of Vermont to thoughts of India, a sense of it hovering around me, as if I am stepping hazily out of a forgotten dream. Perhaps it’s something still reverberating on the mountain surfaces from when Rudyard Kipling wrote “The Jungle Books” in a house in Dummerston, Vermont, a few mil...
